The ghazals and various other compositions have long been an integral part of the Sikh kirtan tradition. This is furthermore attested by the inclusion of some of the works of the poet in the Amrit kirtan gutka as well as the Sikh Rehit Maryada where the writings of Bhai Nand Lal are mentioned explicitly alongside the works of Bhai Gurdas to be a part of the Sikh kirtan canon. The kirtan tradition has most likely been the most successful vehicle to introduce the writings of Bhai Nand Lal to the Sikh masses which is seen in the frequent recitation of the “Nasro Mansoor Guru Gobind Singh” from the Ganjnamâ composition.
Unfortunately today there is not a great diversity in the hymns that are sung and the above mentioned shabad and the “Deen Duniya Dar Kamande” , - the opening ghazal of the Diwân-e-Goyâ - are the most frequently sung shabads from the works of Bhai Nand Lal.
